Literacy is Happening in Mrs. LePla's Classroom!

Classroom News

Ms. LePla's class visited the Dennos Museum in Traverse City to see a display of light painting from artist, Stephen Knapp. The students had a chance to view the works on display, including a 3-D underwater adventure, and make their own collages using colored strips of paper. This experience introduced the students to many new vocabulary words such as "museum," "gallery," and "exhibit." Now, when these students come across one of these words in books or in conversation, they will have first hand knowledge of the meanings. Experiences like this help children better understand the world around them.

Everyone was excited to get to the museum. For many of the students, this was the first time on a real school bus.

In the gallery, students looked at all the different shapes in the artist's work.
