Letter Knowledge in the Classroom

In the classroom, our teachers:

  • focus on four distinct aspects of the alphabet:
    1. the letter name,
    2. the letter shape,
    3. the letter sound, and
    4. how to form (print) the letter.

  • read a variety of alphabet books.

  • display the alphabet in the classroom.

  • recite the alphabet in playful ways using songs and fingerplays.

  • offer materials for children to form and manipulate letters.
